Avatars and props can be animated in two ways:
- creating and uploading an animated gif
- creating a multi-frame avatar or prop.
GIF animation
Gif animations can be uploaded as props, avatars, backdrops and cover images. The animation is controlled within the gif’s settings, so it cannot be adjusted in UpStage.
If the gif has been set to loop, then it will automatically loop on stage. If it hasn’t been set to loop, the animation will play once and stop. To play the animation again, click on the prop or avatar.
See the chapter on Creating graphics for UpStage for more information about creating gif animations.
Multi-frame animation
A multi-frame animation is created by uploading a series of still images and saving them together as a multi-frame media item (this is explained in the Upload media chapter of this manual). This allows you to display one frame at a time or cycle through the frames as an animation.
The layers icon at the bottom right of an avatar or prop in the tool overlay shows which are multi-frame:
Drag a multi-frame avatar or prop onto the stage and right-click to open the context menu. The frames are shown as small thumbnails at the bottom of the context menu. Click on a frame to display it, or hit the “play” button to run the animation.
Change animation speed
To change the speed of the animation, open the right-click menu and choose the “Animation” slider option. The slider becomes yellow. Move the handle up to make the frames animate faster, or down to slow the animation down.
Stop animation
Right-click to display the context menu and tap the pause icon. This stops the animation.
